Commission President Juncker’s State of the Union speech is due to take place on Wednesday 12 September 2018. In their overview of the speech, Politico warn about a speech that will heavily focus on “migration, including plans to strengthen the European border and coast guard (get used to the acronym EBCG) and the EU’s asylum agency, and accelerate rejected asylum seeke returns”.
While far-right forces are on the rise and European elections are approaching, the vision that will Mr. Juncker will share might well flatter a deeply regressive audience. Though, it leaves very few opportunities to raise the issues that are crucial for Europe to hold together as a progressive project in the future, such as social justice, the fundamental rights and rule of law, …
Given this context, we would like to remind Mr. Juncker and the EU institutions about their duty to protect civil rights and fundamental rights and values enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on EU. We would therefore like you to take part in a joint communication action, using the hashtag #SOTEU on Wednesday together with the hashtags of our campaign #MakeEuropeGreatforAll and/or #NoDayWithoutUs. All individuals and organisations involved are invited to spread messages promoting the values put forward in the MEGA manifesto. For instance, they can use some of the arguments or customise them, based on the topics you are focusing on.
Time for us to speak up too about the Europe we want
Since most of you are posting messages in national languages, could you get back to me with relevant messages that you would like us to include in the illustrations? Everyone is free to download it in .psd format, on which you can work with an editing software (Photoshop, GIMP…).
